UNDERSTANDING TILE MATERIALS & FINISHES

PORCELAIN

A dense, longer-lasting, and low-water absorption ceramic tile made of a mixture of finer clays fired at a higher temperature. Widely used in commercial and residential areas.

CERAMIC

Made with red, brown, or white clay. Lightweight, durable, and has a higher water absorption rate. Suitable for walls and floors of residential and recreational spaces.

POLISHED

Tiles are polished to produce a smooth, shiny, reflective surface. Living rooms and bedrooms are the best places for this low-absorption, highly durable, stain-resistant flooring.

GLOSS

An easily cleanable, highly reflective, less abrasion-resistant, non-absorbent tile surface with a glass-like coating to seal and protect printed designs. Ideal for kitchen backsplashes and small spaces.

MATTE

Has a greater level of ‘non-slip’ surface that is perfect for high-traffic areas that are frequently exposed to water, like lobbies, kitchens, and restrooms.

STRUCTURED

During the forming process, a tile surface is altered to create undulating surface designs with a variety of textures and shapes that offer a degree slip resistance.

RECTIFIED

Tiles that are cut to near-exact measurements with near-perfect straight edge for a clean, even, and seamless finish that are perfect for fitting fine grouts.
